Triston Casas appears to have suffered a serious leg injury The Red Sox first baseman was removed from Friday s tournament in the bottom of the second inning after suffering a hard fall on a close play at first base Casas was attempting to beat out a throw from pitcher Joe Ryan and appeared to slip as he stepped on top of the first base bag The -foot- -pound Casas s right leg then buckled under him and he hit his left knee as he crashed hard to the dirt Triston Casas was just taken off the field after seemingly injuring his left knee while running out a grounder in the second inning pic twitter com s smIz Sd WEEI WEEI May Casas was promptly attended to by the trainer and eventually carted off the field on a stretcher He was replaced in the championship by Romy Gonzalez As of this writing the Red Sox have not provided an update on Casas injury or its severity Another major injury would be a huge setback for Casas who missed a considerable portion of last season as well due to a torn cartilage in his ribcage So far this season Casas had gotten off to a tough start batting with three home runs and RBI entering Friday but he d begun showing signs of a turnaround batting with a OPS over his previous six games
