Police arrest man in deadly Uptown Oakland robbery
OAKLAND Police in recent weeks arrested a -year-old man who allegedly shot and killed a man during a botched robbery early Saturday morning in Oakland s Uptown district Officers jailed Jashawndre Upshaw in the fatal shooting of Roosevelt Jones according to Oakland Police Department Deputy Chief Fred Shavies who communicated the arrest in a press conference Thursday afternoon Upshaw was booked into the Santa Rita Jail where he remains held without bail Investigators suspect Upshaw shot Jones while trying to rob him at about a m Saturday on the block of th Street according to court records They zeroed in on Upshaw as a suspect after talking to spectators and reviewing surveillance footage court records show Later that night an Alameda County sheriff s deputy revealed Upshaw s motorcycle in Hayward Shavies explained Officers arrested Upshaw two days later on the block of Brookdale Avenue in East Oakland records show Alameda County prosecutors later charged him with a slew of felonies including murder and attempted robbery Police claim Upshaw acknowledged being in the area of the shooting early Saturday morning but he denied being involved in the robbery according to court records Another person was arrested while officers investigated the killing police mentioned and prosecutors later charged him with several gun-related offenses The killing marked the th death investigated by Oakland police as a homicide so far this year
