David Carle in no rush to leave DU Pioneers: “Some guys in the NHL would trade with me”

For the third time in four seasons the NHL has come calling for David Carle He s evolved from an intriguing young coaching candidate to one of the hottest names in the industry one that should be on every NHL club s list when it has an opening Two teams with several of the best young talent in the league and a potentially exciting future chased him in current weeks For the third time in four seasons the DU hockey coach politely explained Thanks but no thanks I ve stated this before but there s no issue in being recipient Carle declared Thursday three days after signing a multi-year contract extension to stay at the University of Denver At the end of the day I think this is the best job outside the NHL potentially a better job various guys in the NHL would business with me if they had that opportunity Carle reported he has spoken with a sparse teams about an NHL head coaching job Just among the revealed teams San Jose in St Louis last year and now both Chicago and Anaheim in this cycle He is years old nearly two full years younger than the NHL s youngest coach San Jose s Ryan Warsofsky He is exactly eight years younger than Washington s Spencer Carberry who is the second-youngest in the league and a Jack Adams Award finalist in just his second season in charge of the Capitals That s part of the reason why he s in no rush to make the jump The other is how good he believes he has it with the Pioneers It doesn t hurt that he and his wife love raising their two young sons in Denver either I think you re inevitably open-minded to things that come your way and wanting to have those conversations I think it only helps me learn and grow more Carle reported of interviewing with NHL franchises It only helps our operation in a multitude of procedures and certainly a few decisions needed to be made but we chose to make the decision we thought was best for our family and that was obviously to stay here at Denver We live real close to here I ve lived of the last years of my life within one mile radius of this place I feel very fortunate to continue to stay and to work here and serve here in the role that I am in So much is changing in the college sports landscape Several parts of building a group look nothing like they did - years ago in Carle s first limited seasons as the Pios head coach The COVID- pandemic added an extra year of eligibility The transfer portal and name image and likeness compensation were radical changes Revenue sharing compensation directly from the school is coming Chosen of the top coaches in other college sports have opted to leave either for the professional ranks or early retirement Carle has turned into the change not away from it He cited both the NCAA Tournament regional format and the hockey recruiting calendar as big-picture reforms he wants to continue lobbying for beyond the continued on-ice success of the Pios I kind of get excited about the changes and trying to tackle it Carle noted I m trying to drive more change than less change certainly within our sport I feel like I m banging my head against the wall sometimes but I think there s a lot of room still to make the sport better and try to use whatever platform or connections we have within it to do that for the scholar athletes the fans and the overall experience everyone has Related Articles Nathan MacKinnon Sidney Crosby back together for Canada at ice hockey worlds after years A simple yet tricky question What if Colorado just kept Mikko Rantanen Avalanche Journal Avalanche stars Nathan MacKinnon Martin Necas to play in world championships Keeler Mikko Rantanen hopefully taught Avalanche Joe Sakic lesson Don t agreement Stars for scrubs Avalanche analysis Joe Sakic Chris MacFarland back Jared Bednar express no regrets over Mikko Rantanen agreement There s an extra wrinkle in hockey Players from the three major junior leagues in Canada are now eligible to play NCAA hockey College programs and teams from the WHL OHL and QMJHL have fought over - and -year-old players for decades Now The captains of the Everett Silvertips and Swift Current Broncos in the WHL plus a kid who scored goals and points for the Portland Winterhawks are all committed to be part of a large freshman class for the Pios next season The standards and the expectations never change Carle declared It s one of the great parts of working here It s something that obviously we as a undertaking have created long before I got here Multiple places and countless players will apparently be really happy with the year that we had making it to a Frozen Four again having -plus wins But these guys were all very disappointed and really stung by the loss against Western Michigan We felt like we were right there so I think we have a really motivated returning group of student-athletes and couple that with chosen bright-eyed bushy-tailed freshmen I think the sky s the limit for what next year s crew can be Want more Avalanche news Sign up for the Avalanche Insider to get all our NHL analysis
